When a South African falls in love with an American and decides to bring all their favourite people together in the Cape Winelands, you know it’s going to be a special weekend.
Maddie and Wiehan travelled from the United States to celebrate their wedding at Vrede en Lust, surrounded by friends and family who had travelled from all over the world to be there. With Wiehan originally from South Africa, it was incredibly meaningful to share this beautiful part of the world with the people they love most.
Their wedding wasn’t just one day, it was a full three day celebration filled with great food, incredible wine and lots of memories. From the welcome festivities through to the final farewell, the weekend felt relaxed, joyful and completely centred around bringing everyone together.
Of course, like many Cape Town weddings, Mother Nature had her own plans.
Rain arrived on the wedding day, meaning we needed to move to our weather back-up plan and bring in a tent. While this can sometimes feel stressful, it ended up creating something truly magical. Together with an amazing team of suppliers, we transformed the space into a beautiful, warm and romantic setting that felt completely intentional. The soft light, elegant details and cosy atmosphere made the celebration feel even more intimate and memorable.
One of my favourite things about destination weddings is seeing guests fully embrace the experience, and Maddie and Wiehan’s guests certainly did. They enjoyed some of the Cape’s best food and wine, spent quality time together over the course of the weekend, and made memories that extended far beyond the wedding day itself.
As the evening unfolded, heartfelt speeches gave way to a packed dance floor, and the celebrations continued late into the night. The energy in the room was incredible, with guests dancing, singing and celebrating alongside the newlyweds until the very end.
